Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about working with us. If you don’t see your question here, book a discovery call and ask us anything.
Getting Started
We handle projects of all sizes. Some clients come to us for a single room; others need help with an entire home. If you want your space to feel more intentional and you’d rather not figure it out alone, we can help.
It’s a free 30-minute conversation where we get to know each other. You’ll tell us about your space, what’s working (and what isn’t), and what you’re hoping to achieve. We’ll ask questions to understand your style, timeline, and budget range. By the end, we’ll both have a sense of whether we’re a good fit. No pressure, no commitment.
Absolutely! We’re not here to impose a signature look or convince you to start from scratch. Our job is to understand what matters to you and help bring it together in a way that works. If you have pieces you love, collections you want to display, or a specific vibe you’re going for, we want to hear about it. The best results come from collaboration, not dictation.
We are based in Leesburg, Virginia, and work throughout Northern Virginia, Maryland, and the DC area for in-person projects. For clients outside that radius, we offer virtual design services.
Services & Process
Full-service design means that we handle everything from concept to completion: space planning, selections, procurement, vendor coordination, and project management. You get a hands-off experience and a finished space.
The Essentials Edit gives you professional design direction without ongoing management. You receive a curated design package, including layouts, materials, color palette, product recommendations. Then, you or your contractor can execute. It’s ideal if you want expert guidance but prefer to handle (or already have someone handling) the implementation.
Yes. The Selections Edit is specifically designed for trade partners. Builders, remodelers, and contractors who need design support for their projects are good fits for this package. We assist with material selections, client-facing presentations, and design decisions so you can focus on construction. It’s a partnership: your expertise in building, our expertise in design.
Execution time varies with scope. A single-room refresh might be complete in a matter of weeks. A full home design can take several months, especially if construction or renovations are involved. During our discovery call, we’ll give you a realistic timeline based on your specific project. One thing we promise: we won’t give you a timeline we can’t keep.
That’s completely fine. Not every project needs to be a whole-home overhaul. Whether it’s a living room that never came together, a home office that needs to function better, or a primary bedroom you want to feel like a retreat, we’re happy to help with spaces of any size.
No. We provide design services: the vision, plan, and specifications that guide your project. Construction, installation, and trades work (electrical, plumbing, carpentry, etc.) need to be handled by licensed contractors. Think of it this way: we create the roadmap; your contractor builds the road.
Pricing & Investment
It varies by project scope, which is why you will receive a detailed proposal after our discovery call rather than a list of generic prices. What we can tell you: we use flat-fee pricing, so you’ll know exactly what the design investment is upfront. No hourly surprises, no vague estimates. The proposal breaks down the scope, timeline, and cost before any work begins.
The design fee covers our time and expertise: discovery, concept development, space planning, selections, presentations, revisions, and (for full-service) project management. What’s not included: the actual furniture, materials, fixtures, and products themselves, plus any contractor or installation costs. Those purchases are separate from the design fee.
Yes. A 30% deposit is required to begin design work, with the remainder due at project milestones outlined in your proposal. For hourly consultations, payment is due at the time of the session.
Check, cash, Zelle, and Venmo. PayPal is accepted with a small transaction fee.
We design to a range of budgets. During discovery, we’ll ask about your budget for both the design fee and the furnishings/materials. That way, we can tailor recommendations to what’s realistic for you, rather than presenting options out of your price range.
Working Together
That depends on the service level. For full-service design, we handle the heavy lifting: you’ll need to provide input at key decision points, but the day-to-day management is on us. For The Essentials Edit, you’re more hands-on since you’ll be executing the design yourself. Either way, we’ll be clear about what we need from you and when, so there are no surprises.
That’s what revisions are for! The design process is collaborative: we present concepts, you provide feedback, and we refine until it feels right. We’d always rather you be honest about what’s not working than politely accept something you’ll regret. Our goal is a space you love, not just a space we can put in our portfolio.
Primarily email for documentation and decisions, with calls or video chats scheduled as needed. We provide regular updates so you always know where things stand. You won’t be left wondering what’s happening with your project.
More than okay! Many of our clients are first-timers who weren’t sure if professional design was “for them.” We don’t assume you know the process or the jargon. We’ll walk you through how everything works, explain the decisions we’re making, and make sure you feel comfortable the whole way through. No question is too basic.
Practical Details
No. We work with what you have: evaluating what stays, what goes, and what gets added. Part of our process is understanding your existing pieces and figuring out how to incorporate what matters to you. If there are items you’re attached to, we want to know about them early.
Design and construction timelines need to align. Ideally, we start design work before construction begins so your contractor has clear direction from day one. We coordinate with your contractor throughout the project to answer questions, clarify specifications, and ensure the design intent is maintained.
Yes. For clients outside of our service area, or anyone who prefers remote collaboration, we offer full virtual design services. You’ll share photos and measurements, and we’ll provide the same level of design expertise delivered through video calls, digital presentations, and detailed documentation.
